"We are in the process of bringing out a textbook for first and second year engineering students with focus on three dimensional modelling. The textbook will be in the hands of the students next academic year," said Rajeev N S, head (business development and marketing), think3 Designs India Private Limited.

Presently, the textbooks used by engineering students in over 100 colleges affiliated to VTU confine to 2D (two-dimensional) drawings.

One of the major players in CAD and product lifecycle management (PLM) markets, think3 provides technology that combines product concept, development and implementation design environments.

The company has pioneered the global shape modelling (GSM) technology that gives engineers unlimited design creativity by moving from 2D drafting to 3D models.

Simply put: If an automobile engineer has conceptualised a car, he can modify the design using CAD solutions any number of times without having to start from the beginning every time he thinks of improvising on the concept. The students, in turn, would shift from the traditional engineering tools of paper and drafter to latest software applications.

Apart from Karnataka, think3 has collaborated with the Rajasthan government to introduce its software in engineering colleges.

The company is also holding talks with Maharashtra's department of technical education in this regard.
