The pillow you choose depends on how you sleep. Sleep doctors strongly advocate the use of a pillow that helps keep your head position aligned with your spine. For instance, you may need a thicker pillow if you sleep better on your side. Stomach sleepers may need a softer, thinner pillow, or none at all. The choice of filling is purely preferential. You can choose between Dunlop, Talalay, memory foam, polyfill or good old cotton.
While the nuances of loft (thickness) and filling should take care of most people's sleep, noisy sleepers may be looking for more comfort. German brand Thomsen's anti-snoring pillow is a revolution in the making. Its claim to fame is that it can suppress (not cure) snoring. The thickness of its Talalay filling is appropriate for side-sleepers. The pillow is mildly divided in three sections and comes with an inflatable tube to further increase the loft of the mid-section. The idea is to raise your head slightly more so that your tongue does not fall back in the mouth.
Those who find it too thick can unzip the cover and the pillow's outer layer to reduce the filing in any one or all sections. But getting the thickness right is complicated (it didn't come with a manual). Its porous outer fabric, however, makes the pillow breathable and keeps it cool. The pillow is anti-allergic and also mould- and mildew-proof.
Though exorbitantly priced at Rs 8,495, it is worth a try for sleepers with special needs.
