Trend Micro, an anti-virus and internet content security software and services firm, has entered into a global agreement with Ericsson to offer Trend Micro mobile security solution.

Ericsson will incorporate Trend Micro mobile security solution into Ericsson mobile device as part of its mobile data solutions portfolio, offered to enterprises and mobile operators interested in providing additional security measures to protect their end-users from the malware, a company release said.

The rising popularity of data-centric mobile devices is likely to make them an increasingly attractive target for writers of malicious code, the release added.

TrendLabsSM, a global network of malware research centres of Trend Micro, has identified proof-of-concept malicious code which can affect mobile devices. It has identified a worm that spreads through Bluetooth, a malware that spreads via Bluetooth and MMS (multimedia message service) and a spyware that attempts to steal user information.

"The number of people using hand-held devices along with their PC, is growing. Together, Ericsson and Trend Micro will offer a solution for protecting against the evolving malware threat," Raimund Genes, chief technologist - anti-malware, Trend Micro, said.

Trend Micro has already provided mobile security solutions for Smartphones running Symbian and Microsoft operating systems for protection against malicious mobile code including SMS spam and mobile viruses.
