Tata Teleservices Limited (TTL), one of India’s leading telecom service providers, is aiming to scale up its subscriber base in Orissa from the existing figure of 5.5 lakh to 10 lakh by June next year.

“We are looking at a subscriber base of 9 lakh customers in the Orissa circle by the end of 2008-09 and expect to breach the one million mark by June next year. At present, Tata Teleservices has a presence in 272 towns in the state and we are aiming to expand our presence to 300 towns by December this year”, said Biswajit Bhattacharya, the circle operating officer of TTL.

TTL which has a presence in 23 districts in the state is aiming to cover all the 30 districts by the end of this fiscal.

Out of our overall subscriber base of 5.5 lakh customers in the state, about 60 per cent are rural subscribers and the share of rural customers is expected to reach 80 per cent by the end of 2008-09, he added.

Bhattacharya was speaking to the media at the launch of Tata Indicom’s Go for Gold Offer with Samsung Raaga handset.

Under this scheme, the subscriber has to pay Rs 1,899 for the Samsung handset against which he gets 150 minutes of free local talk time within the Tata Indicom network and 100 local free SMS per month.

The Samsung Raaga colour handset includes features like FM Radio, FM Alarm, mobile tracker, SOS Alert, Indian calendar, one touch FM, Hindi and English messaging and integrated hands free speaker phone.

With a subscriber base of over 29 million customers, Tata Teleservices operates in more than 6,600 towns across 19 circles in the country.
