Of the several wireless technology products on its shelf, Ruckus Wireless (RW) will first launch in the country its flagship brand 'ZoneFlex' wireless local area network (WLAN), which is based on a multi-antenna array that provides for distribution of multi-media content over the standard 802.11 technology.

The ZoneFlex product claims to reduce problems such as weak signals, poor coverage and high overhead costs that are currently nagging the Indian Wi-Fi environments.

Speaking to Business Standard, RW general manager (India operations) Sudarshan Boosupalli said: "At present, radio frequencies (RF) sent from Wi-Fi antennas are omnidirectional and a majority of the Wi-Fi facilities are fitted with such antennas that send RFs in parabolic curves. While those using their Wi-Fi-enabled laptops or mobile phones close to the antenna enjoy high signal clarity, those in the periphery of the building may not. The problem is further compounded if there are a lot of brick walls (rooms) in the building as RFs do not pass through them."

It is here that ZoneFlex product scores as the RFs are designed to navigate and deliver higher performance. For, ZoneFlex learns the Wi-Fi environment and automatically steer signals around concrete walls and other obstructions to ensure that the users stay connected.

ZoneFlex is implemented on the BeamFlex smart antenna technology that enables real-time signal selection and interference rejection. The product flashes beams that trail the users in the Wi-Fi environment without any drop in signals.

In other words, the beam is like the ball in the game of squash. RW will launch two models in the country - ZoneFlex 2925 with six antennas and model 2942 with 12 antennas.

"The marketing part will be taken care of by Dell, which will be our value-added reseller in the country. Our Wi-Fi solutions will hit the market next Monday. We seek to capitalise on Dell's customer network," Boosupalli said.

However, he refused to divulge the business arrangement with Dell.
