IT giant Wipro Limited, as part of its energy efficiency initiatives, is planning to reduce the carbon footprints from the present 3.96 tonne per employee to 2.5 tonne in the next five to seven years, said Laxman K Badiga, chief information officer of the company.

“Through various green initiatives, we have created an environmentally-sustainable workplace, by bringing down power consumption by 12 per cent and water utilisation by 15 per cent last year,” he told mediapersons here on Wednesday, adding that the company proposes to set up solar panels and windmills at the Hyderabad centre to power the parking area and boulevard in the next three months.

The IT solutions and services provider currently employs 9,000 professional at its Hyderabad centre, which represents 10 per cent of its total workforce.

Wipro today unveiled the third edition of ‘Ops Fest’ here. The annual event displays various initiatives undertaken by the Hyderabad office and showcases its future plans through an array of stalls and discussions.

On the occasion, Wiproites dedicated the Manikonda Lake, adopted and restored by Wipro Cares – an initiative by company employees to contribute in the areas of community and social development – to Hyderabadis.

“The Ops Fest is an opportunity to share the best practices adopted by us. The forum encourages in-house talent for breakthrough ideas and provides an opportunity to showcase technologies used in the existing facilities,” Bagida said.

The third edition includes 22 stalls on display showcasing Wipro’s capabilities across building management system, civil infrastructure, IT management, risk management, logistics management engineering services, sewage treatment plant, solid waste management, reverse osmosis plant and lighting and office furniture solutions from Wipro Lighting and IT products from Wipro Infotech.
