Wipro today decided to block the purchase of all components for its desktops and laptops that do not comply to the Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS) norms. |
The company has also announced it will make all its standard products RoHS-compliant by the end of the current financial year. |

Launching its new range of eco-friendly desktops and laptops named 'GreenWare' in Bangalore on Thursday""as reported by this paper yesterday"", Ashutosh Vaidya, vice-president, Wipro Personal Computing Division said: "At this point of time, we have eight products including four desktops and three notebooks which are 100 per cent RoHS compliant. But the journey does not end here. We are taking multiple steps to make sure that all our standard products became RoHS compliant by the end of the current fiscal." |

The company aims at using RoHS-compliant components in the large projects it is undertaking for its customers as a system integrator. |

Wipro, in August 2005, had started an environmental management programme (EMP) and formed a task force to look into this. The company has also taken steps to make its manufacturing facility in Pondicherry compliant with environmental standards. |

The company,however did not disclose the amount, it had invested in the refurbishing of the plant. According to the company, the Personal Computing Division, which is a part of Wipro Infotech, grew by 50 per cent last year. |
