Indian corporates today mourned the death of iconic technology entrepreneur Steve Jobs and said that the numerous products he brought to the world were beyond any conventions and stereotypes.

Industrialist Ratan Tata issued a statement terming Jobs as one of the greatest icons of the modern era and said that the Apple products, under his leadership, had an impact unmatched by any other company in the IT space.

Jobs, co-founder of US-based global technology giant Apple, died on Wednesday at the age of 56 after a seven-year battle with pancreatic cancer.

Tata said that Apple products "perhaps brought about the greatest change in the way people wirelessly listen to music, view visual images, exchange data and communicate."

"He has changed the way of life of many. Apple's products, under his leadership, have had a profound impact on mankind, unequalled by any other company in the information and technology space," he added.

Another top Indian industrialist Anand Mahindra posted a message on the social networking site Twitter that it was "hard to wake up to a world without Steve Jobs."

"Steve, the only way I can commemorate you is by committing to cut the crap from my life and to dance to the tune of an inner voice," Mahindra tweeted.

UB group chief Vijay Mallya tweeted that the world has lost one of the greatest innovators of the century.

IT major Congizant's Vice Chairman Lakshmi Narayanan said in a statement that the world has lost a "sterling technology visionary and entrepreneur who thought well ahead of his time, challenged conventions and stereotypes, and pushed the envelope of innovation like few others."

"More than the novel gadgets he pioneered as breathtaking combinations of art and technology, his legacy will be the sheer brilliance of the myriad ways in which he helped the world experience and appreciate its digital future with a sense of profound expectation and wonderment," he said.

As someone who almost single-handedly transformed the world of computing and redefined the concept of pocket devices, Jobs will continue to be a great source of inspiration for generations to come," Narayanan said.

Tata Consultancy Services CEO N Chandrasekaran said, "No one has shaped the technology revolution like Steve Jobs.

"From the iconic Macs and Pixar's animation; from creating the iPod, to the iPad, Jobs has driven disruptions across many industries using technology and innovation."
