Here's a home-grown smart devices maker that has done a smarter thing. Xolo, a smart devices brand owned by Lava International, launched its latest flagship Omega series of smartphones on social networking site - Twitter, on Friday. This is the first time a handset maker has done this. They, either go for a big bang launch event, or prefer staying silent.
Xolo's twitter conference, involving of tech enthusiasts, bloggers, tech writers and the company spokespersons, over an hour and more than 11,000 tweets tagging #TouchOmega, making it among the top three trending discussions in India, proved to be a success. The company's Twitter handle @MyXolo got about 6900 mentions, and received 1,752 new followers during the Twitter conference, according to official Twitter analytics. Being a Twitter conference, the number 140 played a key role. Statements and description of features were short, within 140 characters, and Xolo unveiled one new feature for its products every 140 seconds.
Sunil Raina, business head, Xolo, said it removed the geographical constraint, and this has emerged as the most interactive launch of any product as tech enthusiasts and tech writers joined in from across the country. It gave opportunity to everyone who wanted to be part of this making it the most convenient platform for a tech launch, he added.
Xolo's curved back panels and rounded edged Omega 5.0 comes with a price tag of Rs 8,999 and its Xolo Omega 5.5 at Rs 9,999. Xolo's new series of smartphones will be available in top 10 cities - Omega 5.0 starting December 10 and Omega 5.5 from December 20 across all authorized retail counters and modern trade outlets.
Omega smartphones come with octa core processor, one gigabyte of RAM and powered by Xolo's proprietary HIVE platform, the two devices make higher technology more accessible. Omega 5.5 comes with 13 MP rear camera, Omega 5.5 offers 2 MP front camera.
Xolo also announced special Vodafone offers with Omega 5.0 and Omega 5.5. The Omega 5.0 will get free 500MB of free data and unlimited music content on Vodafone Music for two months. Meanwhile, the Omega 5.5 will get 1GB of free data and unlimited music content for two months. Unfortunately, the company has not announced whether it is offering 2G/3G data to users.
Besides, it also revealed that Android 5.0 Lollipop update will be rolled out to Omega 5.0 and Omega 5.5 users without giving an exact time frame.
