Alkali Mfrs Association elects Ramkumar Shankar as President

Alkali Manufacturers’ Association of India (AMAI), which represents the entire chlor-alkali industry of 30 companies in the country, has elected Ramkumar Shankar as its President for 2014-15 at its 37th annual general meeting. The association also announced the election of Anil Kumar as Vice President.
 
Ramkumar Shankar is Executive Director of Chemplast Sanmar Limited, the flagship company of the Sanmar Group, Chennai. The company is a major manufacturer of PVC resins, caustic soda, chloro-chemicals, refrigerant gas and industrial salt. Shankar is a Chartered Accountant with around 27 years of experience, of which nearly 25 years is with the Sanmar Group.
 
Anil Kumar is Executive Director – Chemicals in DCM Shriram Limited, a Delhi-based business conglomerate comprising agri-rural business and chlor-vinyl business. The chlor-vinyl business arm manufactures caustic soda, chlorine, calcium carbide, PVC resins, PVC compounds, among others. Kumar is a graduate in Physics and Law and has been with the DCM Group for over 40 years.
 
The principal products of the chlor-alkali industry are caustic soda, soda ash and chlorine. The alkali industry constitutes the largest segment of the Indian inorganic chemical industry. The industry produces about 64 MT of caustic soda and soda ash valued at about Rs 13,000 crores.
 
AMAI is also the first chemical industry association in the country to launch a dedicated toll-free helpline for handling Chlorine Emergencies.
