Arrow Greentech Ltd, formerly known as Arrow Coated Products Ltd, has received a process patent for a method of manufacturing water soluble film (WSF) system with embedded/entrapped actives from Australia. Prior to this patent, the company was granted a product patent for actives embedded water soluble films (WSF).

The patented process uses the inventive step of a detachable liner. The invention relates to a WSF system with actives embedded/entrapped therein such as to provide precise and desired release of actives. The process can be used for diverse manufacturing applications, such as pharmaceutical active ingredients (APIs), detergents, softeners, perfumes, pesticides, fungicides, etc.

"The invention further discloses novel online and offline process for the manufacture of such multi-layered WSF with or without liners of desired shapes to selective entrap interacting/non-interacting materials and their combinations. The process also provides options for the use of a wide range of raw materials, liners such as paper, film, foil, fabric, etc,” said Arrow Greentech in a BSE filing on June 28, 2016.

The company, one of the leading players in water soluble films, has developed this unique method to ensure that precise dosages of actives are embedded in the WSF and that the actives do not get 'burnt out' or degrade during the process of manufacturing.

Arrow Greentech, having manufacturing facility in Ankleshwar (Gujarat), is planning to commercialise the patented process, which can widely be used in pharmaceutical and agrochemicals industries.
