CII had organised a seminar – ‘Enhancing performance & safety: Standards for a better India’ - under the theme of ‘Chemistry Everywhere’ in Delhi focusing on the role of standards in value creation for end user, customer and chemical industry.
With the rise in consumption, there also arises a need for consumption standards which are the norms that define which chemicals and in what quantity these should be used in products. The aim of laying these norms is to ensure consumer safety, product quality and regulatory compliance. These have multiple benefits like environment protection, consumer health and safety, cost efficiency and energy efficiency which were discussed in the seminar with core emphasis on safety.
Nadir Godrej, Chairman, CII National Committee on Chemicals, stated, “Today’ forum is an opportunity for all present here to work together to enhance performance and safety standards in India. This seminar presents us with a forum to scrutinise the consumption standards in India vis a vis the global paradigm, debate upon the gaps and aim to improvise in the twin sectors- buildings and automotive by setting benchmarking in the industry for building a better India.”
Parminder Bajaj, Chief standardisation, Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), added, “The government is very open to industry participation on standards. I congratulate CII for organising this event which is just a beginning of a long collaboration for creating standards for India.” Bajaj further emphasised on the need for the industry to collaborate with Bureau of Indian Standards.
Later during the seminar Sanjay Pant, Sc-E, CEO, Bureau of Indian Standards, said, “National building code is under revision. Government welcomes the industry to actively participate in consultative procedure.”
