Danfoss India, a leading mechanical and component manufacturer and supplier in the HVAC industry, has partnered with the Indian Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air Conditioning Engineers (ISHRAE) with the intent of reaching out to key stakeholders and collectively finding solutions to some of the biggest challenges faced by the HVAC industry when it comes to efficient project delivery.

Sustainability is key for future and it is imperative for each stakeholder to make sure the end product is a viable architecture. The practice of sustainable building is really about an integrated approach towards planning, designing, construction, operations, and maintenance. Having the right standards and codes for buildings will assist in a green future. IAPD is a collaborative approach of all stakeholders that harnesses the talents and insights of all participants to optimise project results, increase value, reduce waste, and maximise efficiency through all phases of design, fabrication, and construction. Since buildings affect the environment, opportunities to improve in these areas can have a significant impact on the final outcome.

Size of projects is getting bigger and complex and there is an increasing need for planning before tendering among stakeholders. As large projects have several stakeholders, coordination during project executions critical to deliver final product. If there is a lack in this much needed coordination, the project cannot keep cost and timeline and as an end result sustainability is compromised.

Ravichandran Purushothaman, President, Danfoss India, said “We are privileged to be part of this collaboration by ISHRAE and stakeholders to have an integrated approach towards efficient project delivery aimed at both customer satisfaction and energy efficiency compliance. It is common knowledge that selection of the right equipment for heating, ventilation and air-conditioning saves any property a lot on its energy expenditure. Cash flows in execution are linked to coordinated execution if suppliers’ interest needs to be protected. Through IAPD the right framework can be developed for the industry.”

In the last few years, the HVAC industry has overcome several hurdles, with the single most important issue being that of profitability. There is a mounting pressure on the industry to increase sales and customer base amid having to work relentlessly towards becoming sustainable and environment conscious. Nodal agencies like ISHRAE and RAMA (refrigeration and air conditioning manufacturers association) have worked closely with government bodies such as Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) for framing new standards which have either been implemented, upgraded or are in the process of implementation. In fact, the technology shift is likely to make management, monitoring and usage of energy even more convenient. Also, globally, the industry is working on different alternatives on Refrigerants. As a developing and growing Industry in India, skill will be a paramount requirement. IAPD can ensure the right skill development and the needs are identified.

Nirmal Ram, newly appointed President of ISHRAE, said, “While at a functional level standards set by nodal and government bodies are well appreciated for the direction they provide, Government should at incentivising consumers who are opting for high energy efficiency rated products through subsidies and introducing lower tax liability. The industry is already preparing itself for the HCFC phase down and is becoming increasingly aware on the right use of different refrigerants for different applications, it is imperative for manufacturers and other stakeholders to develop adequate skills that help enable this technology up-gradation. Danfoss meets our expectations as a trusted partner in this endeavour given their reputation and solution oriented service model in the country.”
