DCM Shriram Ltd, a diversified group of companies active in chemicals, textiles, alcohol and sugar, is planning to expand its chlor alkali plant and related flakers & stable bleaching powder plants at Kota (Rajasthan) with an invest of Rs 97 crores.

“The board has approved an investment proposal estimating to Rs 97.3 crores to be financed through internal generation and debts, for expansion of its chlor alkali plant and related flakers & stable bleaching powder plants at Kota (Rajasthan) for increase in its existing capacity of 330 tonnes per day (TPD) to 410 TPD (proposed),” said DCM Shriram in a BSE filing yesterday.

The proposed expansion project is likely to be operational by the end of Q3 FY18.

“The existing plant is running at its full capacity and the rationale for this capacity addition is to meet the market deficit in our region for this product,” it added.

The company is currently enhancing capacity of chlor alkali at Bharuch (Gujarat) plant through a multi-phase expansion project. As part of this exercise, DCM commissioned 420 TPD of additional chlor alkali capacity at its Bharuch plant in June this year. With the commissioning, the total chlor alkali capacity of DCM Shriram has gone up to 1200 TPD.

The balance chlor alkali capacity and power expansion project at Bharuch is expected to be commissioned in phases by September-October 2016.
