Deepak Nitrite forms subsidiary for phenol project in Gujarat

The company is setting up the project, with a capital outlay of around Rs 1,200 crores, for manufacturing 200,000 MTPA of phenol and 120,000 MTPA of acetone (a co-product)

Deepak Nitrite Ltd (DNL) – one of the leading manufacturers of bulk chemicals & commodities (BCC), fine & speciality chemicals (FSC) & fluorescent whitening agents (FWA) – has established a wholly owned subsidiary, Deepak Phenolics Limited, to execute its phenol-acetone project in Dahej. "Our project for the manufacture of phenol and acetone from cumene is taking good shape," said Deepak Mehta, vice chairman & managing director, Deepak Nitrite Ltd, while announcing the company’s annual result, on May 13, 2015.
 
In August 2014, the board of directors of Deepak Nitrite had approved to undertake a project for manufacturing phenol and acetone with a capital outlay of around Rs 1,200 crores. The proposed phenol plant, which will be located at Dahej (Gujarat) will have capacity to manufacture 200,000 metric tonne per annum (MTPA) of phenol and 120,000 MTPA of acetone (a co-product).
 
The company has already selected Kellogg, Brown & Root International Inc (KBR) for technology and engineering services and ThyssenKrupp Industrial Solutions India Pvt Ltd (formerly known as Udhe) as the EPCM contractor. The basic engineering plan, design, budget, equipment list & vendor list are in advanced stages of finalisation and key members of the project team have been appointed.
