A former police constable was sentenced to life imprisonment by a local court for killing his wife on suspicion of extramarital affair in 2011.
Sessions court judge D G Murunkar convicted former Police Constable Shatrughna Meshram (40), who was a compulsive drinker, for killing his wife Kavita and awarded life imprisonment to him.
The court also imposed a fine of Rs 25,000 on Meshram, out of which Rs 12,000 each will be deposited in fixed deposit of his two minor daughters.
According to prosecution, Meshram often used to pick fights with his wife accusing her of having an extra-marital affair.
On October 27, 2011, Meshram assaulted her with a knife at their home in suburban Andheri in front of their minor daughters, following an altercation. Though Kavita was rushed to a nearby hospital, she was declared dead before admission.
Meshram was arrested by MIDC police and subsequently booked for murder.

He said most of the witnesses were police personnel and their family members as Meshram used to stay in police colony.
