Gail’s 1000-km Dabhol-Bengaluru Pipeline Project has been awarded as Premier Project in large construction category at Platts Global Energy Awards 2013 held in New York City. Nominations were received from than 25 countries including Brazil, India, Puerto Rico, Saudi Arabia, Spain, Russia, Switzerland, Argentina, China, Pakisthan, Bangladesh, Thailand, UK and the US.
The Dabhol-Bangaluru pipeline, which was was recently dedicated to the nation by PM Dr Manmohan Singh, connects South India to the national gas grid for the first time. It has been constructed at an investment of Rs 4,500 crore with a design capacity of 16 MMSCMD of natural gas which can produce 3,000 MW of clean energy.
This is one of the most technically difficult pipelines laid in the country in the highly undulated terran of Western Ghats, where Gail has completed construction in only 24 months. Many innovative technical methods were adopted for crossing rivers. A record lowering of 41.53 km pipeline was achieved in a single day in the project.
