Government plans to revive sick fertiliser plants
For this purpose, Ananth Kumar, Minister for Chemicals & Fertilizers, holds a meeting to discuss issues relating to revival of sick units of FCIL and HFCL
The government is planning to revive some of the sick fertiliser units in the country, a move that could increase the production of fertilisers significantly. Taking first step in this direction, the Union Minister for Chemicals & Fertilizers, Ananth Kumar, on August 4, 2014 held a meeting with the Minister of Steel, Mines and Labour & Employment, Narendra Singh Tomar, and the Minister for Petroleum & Natural Gas, Dr Dharmendra Pradhan, to discuss issues relating to revival of sick units of Fertiliser Corporation of India Ltd (FCIL) and also those of Hindustan Fertiliser Corporation Ltd (HFCL).
FCIL sick fertilisers units at Sindri (Jharkhand), Gorakpur (Uttar Pradesh), Ramagundam (Andhra Pradesh), and Talcher (Orissa) and uncommissioned unit at Korba (Chhattisgarh) have certain issues relating to supply of gas and land related issues that belong to the Steel Authority of India. Ministers also discussed problems relating to revival of fertiliser units of HFCL at Barauni in Bihar and Durgapur and Haldia in West Bengal during the meeting.
