There is a good news for farmers in the country as major public sector fertiliser manufacturers – Rashtriya Chemicals and Fertilizers Limited (RCF) and National Fertilizers Limited (NFL) - have decided to bring down the MRP of diammonium phosphate (DAP) by Rs 2500 per metric tonne (PMT) and muriate of potash (MOP) by Rs 5000 PMT with immediate effect.

Other fertiliser manufacturers have also agreed to bring down the price of MOP and DAP by Rs 5000 PMT and Rs 2500 PMT, respectively. With this, a 50-kg bag of MOP will cost Rs 250 less, while DAP price will be reduced by Rs 125 per 50-kg bag. Ananth Kumar, Minister of Chemicals and Fertilizers stated that the ministry has directed the department to ensure that farmers are passed on maximum benefits by the company’s manufacturing MOP, DAP and NPK fertilisers.

On an average, the farmers in India use around 100 lakh metric tonne (LMT) of DAP, 25 LMT of MOP and 90 LMT of NPK fertilisers annually. Because of proactive steps of the Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers, first ever time in last 15 years, the prices of DAP, MOP and NPK fertilisers have been reduced substantially and approximately Rs 4500 crores worth of benefit have been transferred to farmers at large annually, claimed the Minister.

“This reduction of price of P&K fertilizers will go a long way in facilitating balanced use of fertilisers and improving soil health and its fertility,” added the Ministry press release.
