IG Petrochemicals Ltd has commenced commercial production at its new phthalic anhydride. IG Petrochemicals in its filing to BSE stated, “The company has after successful completion of trial runs of the phthalic anhydride expansion project (PA-3) of 50,000 MT at Taloja, Maharashtra, commenced commercial production and the operation of the plant is stabilised.”
In its Q1 2013-14 report, IG Petrochemicals had mentioned that the expansion project (PA-3) has commenced trial runs with effect from July 19, 2013. Phthalic anhydride is used in industries such as flexible PVC, plastics, paints, construction, transportation and marine.

With the commencement of the new project, IG Petrochemicals has reportedly increased its phthalic anhydride capacity to 166110 tonne from the current 116110 tonne. As per Annual Report of the company for FY 2011-12, the capital expenditure for the expansion project is estimated at Rs 225 crore.
