Intertek, a leading quality solutions provider to industries worldwide, is now recognised as a certification body in India for wind turbines under India’s Centre for Wind Energy Technology (C-WET) program. This expands Intertek’s global renewable energy capabilities, allowing manufacturers across Europe, China, and India to take advantage of Intertek’s industry-leading response time, capacity, and expertise. Intertek has been enlisted as a certification body by C-WET, an autonomous research and development institution under the Government of India’s Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), which serves as the technical focal point of excellence to foster the development of wind power in India.

“Intertek is excited to announce its recognition as a certification body by C-WET. We look forward to a productive partnership with this important program,” said Rajesh Saigal, Regional MD, Intertek South Asia.

He added, “Energy from wind holds high promise in India as a non-conventional energy source that can supplement grid power generation and it is more important than ever for manufacturers selling or installing wind power in India to understand the applicable regulations and standards C-WET is envisioned to serve as a technical focal point of excellence to foster the development of wind energy in the country. Intertek will continue to expand its services to support manufacturers’ need to quickly launch the highest quality new products in the global marketplace.”

Intertek now joins a select group of certification bodies recognised by C-WET to test and certify complete Wind Turbine Generator Systems (WTGs) per IEC international standards and GL Guidelines for safety and performance of wind turbines.

By cooperating with this knowledge-based institution, Intertek’s services now align with C-WET’s goal to find complete solutions to address challenges and opportunities across the entire spectrum of the wind energy sector. Intertek’s offers widest range of wind energy services including type certification, type testing, design review, compliance planning, component evaluation, field labelling, on-site inspection, and performance characteristics reports. Component testing can be done concurrently with system testing for offshore, large, mid-size, or small wind products. Intertek’s global footprint and leading capabilities clear a path for manufacturers to quickly develop and launch innovative new products.

India has progressed steadily in the development of wind power in the last few years. Growing faster than solar energy, wind power currently accounts for more than 70 percent of the total grid-interactive renewable capacity in the country. As of December 2013 the installed capacity of wind power in India was 20,149 MW. It is estimated that 6,000 MW of additional wind power capacity will be installed in India by 2014. Wind power accounts for 8.5% of India's total installed power capacity, and it generates 1.6% of the country's power.
