Indian Oil dispatches first consignment from Paradip Refinery

Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) dispatched the first consignment of products from its Paradip Refinery comprising of high speed diesel, superior kerosene and liquefied petroleum gas on November 22, 2015. The consignment is considered a significant milestone for Paradip Refinery and Indian Oil is now ready to supply products in small quantities from its 15 million tonne per annum (mtpa) Paradip Refinery, said IOC in a BSE filing. The company has said that the whole refinery complex is expected to become fully operational in an integrated manner in the near future.
 
Built at a cost of Rs 34,555 crore, the refinery is designed to process broad basket of crude including cheaper high sulphur heavy crudes and has an overall Nelson complexity factor of 12.2. The refinery is capable to produce Euro-IV/Euro-V quality transportation fuel.
 
Paradip refinery has more than 20 process units, which together process the basic feedstock, crude oil, to obtain various products deploying the major refining processes such as crude oil distillation, hydro-treating, catalytic cracking, catalytic reforming and delayed coking.

Indian Oil Corporation is also planning to set up an ethanol manufacturing plant at Paradip in collaboration will the US-based Celanese Corporation using petroleum coke (petcoke), a by-product in the refining process.

In addition, for downstream industries, Indian Oil Corporation will invest about Rs 3,150 crore for setting up a polypropylene unit in the Petroleum, Chemicals and Petrochemical Investment Region (PCPIR) proposed at Paradip. The polypropylene unit coming up at the petrochemical complex will be of 0.7 million tonne per annum capacity.
