Indian Oil Corporation Ltd (IOCL) has begun work on its ambitious Octamax project at Mathura Refinery with the laying of foundation stone by Dharmendra Pradhan, Minister of State for Petroleum and Natural Gas, on March 6, 2016. This Octamax unit is Indian Oil’s own project conceived by R&D division and is in line with the government’s Make in India. Mathura refinery is selected to have the first demonstration unit of this technology. The R&D centre has developed a process Octamax for upgradation of C4 hydrocarbons from refinery LPG stream to high-octane gasoline blending stock.
Dharmendra Pradhan appreciated the efforts of the corporation for adopting the concept of ‘Make in India’ and constructing the Octamax Unit indigenously. He expressed his satisfaction on the fact that the MS produced through Octamax will be of BS VI standard and will be an environment friendly product.
