Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB) has asked Shree Hari Chemicals Export Ltd, a dye intermediate manufacturer, to shut down production activity at its Mahad (Raigad, Maharashtra) due water and air pollution issues. “The company has received a notice from regional officer (Raigad) of Maharashtra Pollution Control Board under Section 33A of the Water (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act, 1974 and 31A of the Air (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act, 1981 directing to close down the manufacturing activities at the company's factory at MIDC Industrial Area, Mahad, Raigad (Maharashtra),” said Shree Hari Chemicals in a BSE filing. Shree Hari Chemicals Export Ltd is one of the leading manufacturers of dye intermediate (H-acid) in India.
This is not the first time that the Mahad plant had to stop production due to pollution concerns. Shree Hari Chemicals had to close down manufacturing activities at its factory in February 2012 as per the directions of MPCB. However, Bombay High Court on July 29, 2013 gave conditional permission to the company to restart its commercial production at its Mahad factory.
