Al Ghaith, a premier and diversified business house in the United Arab Emirates, has awarded the Noida-based Nuberg Engineering Limited - an engineering, procurement, fabrication and construction (EPFC) company – a contract for a calcium chloride project. The plant, with a capacity of 85 MTPD, is the first calcium chloride plant in the UAE.
Nuberg has an incessant association with Al Ghaith and with this new project the total contract between the two companies is close to $ 50 million. Nuberg already has two ongoing EPFC contract for chlor alkali projects with Al Ghaith and is in the process of commissioning the first phase of the EPFC project.
A K Tyagi, chairman, Nuberg Engineering, said, “We are excited about the project as it gives us the opportunity to set up UAE’s first calcium chloride plant, making us one of the most trusted and reliable EPFC- LSTK companies globally. The scope of the project includes the process design and technology, basic & detail engineering, project management, procurement, erection, quality inspection, safety enforcement, hand holding, training and commissioning services. The fabrication for heavy process equipment will be done from our state-of-the-art manufacturing unit in Gujarat.”
Ali Hamel, chairman, Al Ghaith Industries, said, “We are proud to announce UAE’s first calcium chloride plant. This strategic plant will affect import/export balance of calcium chloride in UAE favour. The project is a leap in the direction to encourage the non-oil industry in UAE. This project will enable us to not only cater to the local market but also export to neighbouring countries as well.”
Almamoon Al Baadani, general manager, Al Ghaith Industries, added, “This is an important project which further strengthens our position in the oil and gas business. The project solidifies the Group’s position as the one of the largest and diversified group and bolsters calcium chloride supply, which is a critical input for the oil and gas business.”
Calcium chloride has an essential use in oil and gas industry for drilling wells and treating roads. In the oil industry, calcium chloride is used to establish and maintain the oil and gas well. It is used as a completion fluid to secure well casing and to unsettle drilling mud.
