Pondy Oxides and Chemicals Ltd, the Chennai-based secondary lead smelter, has operationalised a new smelter in Andhra Pradesh having an installed capacity of 36,000 mt per annum. “The company has commenced trial run of the new smelter plant at industrial park, Gajulamandyam, near Tirupati in Andhra Pradesh, to manufacture lead & lead alloys in addition to the existing smelter plant located at Sriperumbudur in Tamil Nadu,” said Pondy Oxides in a BSE filing.

Lead is known to have widespread applications mainly due of its properties like easy extraction and to work with, highly malleable, corrosion resistant, etc.

The new AP smelter is expected to meet the additional market demand, both domestic and international, from its growing customers and emerging new markets.

Pondy Oxides and Chemicals produces lead & lead alloys, and PVC additives which are supplied to manufacturers of battery, chemical and PVC extruded & moulded products. About 50 percent of Pondy Oxides’ production is exported to customers in Asia (to countries such as South Korea, Japan & Indonesia) and Middle East regions.
