Bahrain based Midal Cables will set up an aluminium conductor unit in Odisha at a cost of Rs 358 crore. The project was recently cleared by the State Level Single Window Clearance Authority (SLSWCA). The facility with a production capacity of 60,000 tonne per annum (tpa) would come up at the aluminium park at Angul developed jointly by National Aluminium Company (Nalco) and state owned agency for land acquisition and industrial infrastructure development, Odisha Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd (Idco).
"The project by Midal Cables will create employment opportunities for 350 people. We are encouraging micro and small enterprises (MSEs) to set up downstream units at the park,” said a government official. The aluminium park has so far drawn 11 proposals for establishment of downstream units.
Apart from Midal Cables, Metal Powder Company Ltd, a leading manufacturer of non-ferrous metal powders, based in Madurai (Tamil Nadu) is keen to set up an aluminium powder manufacturing unit also at the aluminium park at Angul at an investment of Rs 330.90 crore.
A wide variety of industries using aluminium conductors, extrusions, castings, foils, powder and paste can be set up at the Angul Aluminium Park. Nalco has already agreed to supply 50,000 tonne per annum (tpa) of molten metal to the aluminium park at Angul for promoting downstream industries.
