JSW Steel Coated Products Ltd, a subsidiary of JSW Steel Ltd that has an installed capacity of 18 million tonnes per annum (tpa), has placed an order with CMI FPE and CMI Industry Metals for the supply of a continuous annealing line (CAL) to be erected at its Tarapur facility in Maharashtra.
"The new line will produce 208,000 tpa of steel substrate for tinplate, which will then be electroplated and used as packaging material," said CMI Industry in a press release on August 2, 2016.
The new line will help JSW Steel to improve its competitive position, capture additional marketshare in the growing domestic tinplate business, and enhance its share in highly specialised application areas such as the packaging steel sector.
The new CAL comprises a vertical cleaning section followed by all radiant tube fire annealing section. The supply scope includes all essential components of the annealing line designed by CMI (Cockerill Maintenance & Ingenierie).
The new tinplate CAL is scheduled to start production in the first half of 2018 and most of the equipment will be built by CMI FPE in India.
The Belgium-based CMI designs, modernises and maintains equipment in sectors of energy, defence, industrial and environment. Its metal division, CMI Industry Metals, designs and supplies cold rolling mills, processing lines, chemicals and thermal treatment installations for the steel and the non-ferrous industries. It also provides heat treatment technologies for aviation, forging and casting industries, and hydrometallurgical processes for the extraction of ores.
CMI FPE is the Indian hub of CMI Industry, a supplier of global solutions for cold rolling mill complexes. It has developed a wide range of technologies in the field of processing lines, rolling mills, therma and chemical processes.
