PM Narendra Modi launches Make in India Week in Mumbai

MoUs signed by Raymond Industries (to set up Rs 1400 cr manufacturing unit for linen yarn and garments) and Sterilite group (to invest in LCD FAB project involving investment of Rs 20,000 cr)

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Make in India Week, a flagship event to provide greater momentum to the Make in India initiative, on February 13, 2016 in Mumbai in presence of Swedish Prime Minister, Finnish Prime Minister and other senior dignitaries from India and abroad.
 
Three MoUs were also signed on the sidelines of the inauguration. The first MoU was signed between Twin Star (Sterilite is Holding Company) and Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) which is investing into LCD FAB with technology partner Autron of Taiwan. This will be first of its kind of project, with estimated investment of upto Rs 20,000 crores, in India.
 
As per the third MoU, signed between Raymond Industries and MIDC as part of ‘Farm to Fabric’ initiative, Raymond intends to invest Rs 1400 crore for manufacturing of linen yarn & fabric, and garments. The unit will be set up in Nandgaon Textile Park at Amravati District and will procure cotton from the farmers in the district and Vidarbha region.
 
Hindustan Coca Cola Beverages Private Ltd, Jain Irrigation Pvt Ltd and Department of Agriculture and Marketing, Government of Maharashtra signed an MoU for setting up a juice manufacturing facility to support farmers growing oranges in Vidarbha. The project, which is expected to benefit 5000 farmers with an average landholding of 2 acres each, intends to give higher value to orange growers and generate gainful employment.
