The Government of Ethiopia has allotted land of 4317 sq m to Mumbai-based pharmaceutical company Kilitch Drugs India Ltd to set up a manufacturing plant. The land was allotted, on a lease for a period of 45 years, to the company's subsidiary Kilitch Estro Biotech Plc. The allotment of land will help Kilitch Drugs to strengthen its presence in East Africa, as Ethiopia is the third-most populous nation in the African continent after Nigeria and Egypt.

To drive its overseas business, the company has been looking to expand its presence in Africa. The company, which recently opened a warehouse in Ethiopia, aims to bolster its manufacturing capabilities in Africa. As part of this strategy, it is currently in process of setting up two facilities at Ethiopia and Burkina Faso primarily for the nutraceutical manufacturing.

“The size of the land allotted in Ethiopia is big enough so as to set up a fully integrated pharma plant therein at any time in future," said Kilitch Drugs in a BSE filing.
