The government is planning to set up a plastics park in Telangana to give a boost to plastic processors in the region. Ananth Kumar assured the government will give complete support to plastic product manufacturers from the South Indian states in achieving full potential of polymers and plastics sector. The plastics industry is expected to touch 20 million tonnes (MT) of plastic usage by the year 2022, up from the current 11.5 MT.

Drawing attention to the fact that only 3-4% of waste was being utilised, Ananth Kumar urged the plastic manufacturers to focus on plastic recycling. He added that manufacturers can possibly look at the task like plastic social responsibility.

The Minister also informed that the government will very soon sanction financial assistance to set up a new Central Institute of Plastics Engineering & Technology (CIPET) campus in Rudraram of Medak district at a cost of Rs 50 crore. Currently, there are five CIPETs in the country at Ahmedabad, Bhubaneswar, Chennai, Lucknow and Kochi.
