Jindal Poly Films Ltd (JPFL), the flagship company of the B C Jindal group and the manufacturer of flexible packaging films, will invest Rs 1000 crores to expand its production capacities in India and overseas. “The company has drawn up future expansion plans for its India operation and for its subsidiaries in USA and Europe totalling to Rs 1000 crores,” said Jindal Poly Films in a press release on November 7, 2015.
With this expansion, Jindal Poly Films will increase the production capacity of biaxially oriented polypropylene (BOPP) films, used in flexible packaging, by 161,000 tpa to reach 606,000 tpa globally. The capacity expansion comprises of three BOPP production lines, metalisers, coating lines along with the required ancillary equipment.
“The board has approved the expansion plan with an overall investment of approximately Rs 1000 crores. The new capacities are expected to be operational over the next two years,” added the release.
Jindal Poly Films has the world’s single largest plant for production of BOPET (biaxially-oriented polyethylene terephthalate) and BOPP films at Nashik (Maharashtra) and also has manufacturing facilities in USA, Europe and other countries. JPEL’s current global combined capacity of BOPET and BOPP is 572,000 tpa.
In 2013, Jindal Poly Films had acquired global BOPP films business of ExxonMobil Chemical giving it access to five BOPP production locations in the US and Europe.
