In a Business Standard Smart Business event on Wealth Creation & Management, organised in collaboration with Association of National Exchange of Members of India (ANMI), Tamil Nadu Investors Association (TIA) and Hindustan Chamber of Commerce (HCC), the experts shared their optimism and concerns on the stock market at present.
R. Subhash, Founder of T. RAM Financial Services Pvt. Ltd., said the investors should not make the mistake of letting anxiety rule their decisions or procrastinating decisions. Proper planning is necessary on how and where the investments are going to be and having a clear succession planning is advisable for better wealth creation and management.
One could look at determining companies to invest based on the earnings yield and after investing, has to hold it for at least five to ten years to see the actual potential, said Deep Value Investor and Author, Anand Srinivasan. Investing in two to three positive companies per month and rebalancing the portfolio once per year is the key.
B. Padmanabhan, Director of Fortune Planners Investment Services Ltd., said that this is the right time to invest in mutual fund. Volatility can be managed and the risk can be mitigated if one understands what the risk is, he said. Even a small amount invested for a long term can bring in good returns, he added.
A healthy savings rate is the basis for creating wealth, said K. Suresh, National President, ANMI. It is always prudent to spread investment among multiple assets. V. Nagappan, a market expert, said that while there were around 3,000 opportunities to invest into earlier, it has become difficult to identify one by the end of 2017. There are very few opportunities available and one needs to keep caution while investing.
