Before you can get down to the requirements to migrate to Australia, you will have to first explore the different options for you, zeroing in onto the most suitable Australia immigration route in keeping with your preferences and specific situation.

Now, in order to be able to migrate overseas to Australia as a skilled worker, settling permanently in the Land Down Under, you will have to take the General Skilled Migration [GSM] route. GSM visas for Australia include – Skilled Independent visa [subclass 189], and Skilled Regional [Provisional] visa

[Subclass 489].

Foreign nationals that have the skills or qualifications needed by Australia can make use of SkillSelect for securing a nomination for a skilled visa by an employer, being invited to apply for a skilled visa by the Australian government, or getting a nomination for a skilled visa by either a territory or state government.

An Expression of Interest, commonly referred to as an EOI, is a way of communicating one’s intention to the Australian government for being considered for an Australia skilled visa. Do keep in mind that an EOI is not a visa application as such.

Additionally, employers in Australia can sponsor inpiduals with recognized qualifications, experience or skills seeking to work in Australia.

Providing a stay in Australia for up to 5 years, the Skilled Employer Sponsored Regional [Provisional] visa [subclass 494] enables employers in regional Australia to address labour shortages within their specific region by sponsoring skilled workers wherever employers are unable to source “an appropriately skilled Australian worker”.

If found to be otherwise eligible, a subclass 494 visa holder might be able to apply for their Canadian permanent residence after 3 years from the time of the commencement of their employment in Australia.

Those with a successful business overseas might be nominated by a state or territory government to either establish or manage a business or invest in Australia.

An Australian citizen or permanent resident – as well as an eligible New Zealand citizen – might be able to sponsor their family to come to live in Australia. Australian visas that are specifically targeted at parents – Contributory Parent visa [subclass 143], Contributory Parent [Temporary] visa [subclass 173], and Parent visa [subclass 103].

Australian Partner visas are probably the most popular of them all. In order to qualify for an Australia Partner visa, the inpidual must be in a relationship with an Australian citizen, Australian PR, or an eligible citizen of New Zealand.

The specific subclass that is to be applied to would be based on certain factors such as whether the visa was temporary or permanent, as well as where the visa was being applied from.

The temporary Partner visa for Australia is valid for 2 years. During this time period, the relationship of the visa holder will be assessed in order to ascertain whether they intend staying with their partner. A permanent Australian Partner visa will be granted to those that have their relationship pass the test.

Now, the Permanent Partner visa for Australia is valid for 5 years. After completing 4 years on the visa, the inpidual will be eligible to apply for their Australian citizenship. A much sought-after option among ways of bringing their partner to Australia is that of the prospective Marriage visa [subclass 300].

Australia migration, similar to migration to probably any other country across the globe, requires a clearly laid-out plan and a strategy to see it to fruition. The cornerstone of immigrating to Australia remains working out the most ideally suited immigration pathway to apply under, thereby maximizing the potential for your visa being granted.

Do keep in mind that in certain situations, a state/territory sponsorship will also have to be applied for. A subclass 489 or subclass 491 nomination can fetch a candidate 15 points. A state nomination for a subclass 190 visa for Australia is worth 5 points.
