South Africa beat Sri Lanka in match 5 of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 by six wickets and with 22 balls to spare at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in Long Island, New York on Monday, June 3.

The Proteas chased a low target of 78. However, it was not an easy chase as they lost quick wickets and the runs were not easy to come by. Wanindu Hasaranga picked two wickets for the Lankan team while Quinton de Kok top-scored with 20 runs for South Africa.

Earlier, the Lankans were rolled over for 77 in 19.2 overs thanks to a fiery spell of 4/7 from Anrich Nortje. This was Lanka's lowest-ever total in T20 World Cup history.

SL skipper Hasaranag won the toss and decided to bat first against South Africa. While the Lankan team went in with four spin-bowling options, the Proteas have played Keshav Maharaj as the only spinner in their attack.

This match marked the first-ever international game at the venue.
