Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) beat Punjab Kings (PBKS) by 21 runs at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow on Saturday, March 30 to register their first points in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024.
Chasing 200 to win, Punjab had a great opening partnership with 100 runs added by Jonny Bairstow and Shikhar Dhawan. But debutant Mayank Yadav broke the back of the Punjab batting with his speed as he got three wickets in his four overs. Mohsin Khan then bowled a great over to take two wickets in it as Punjab could only make 178/5 in their 20 overs.
Earlier Lucknow posted 199/8 in their 20 overs. Quinton de Kock scored 54 while stand-in skipper Nicholas Pooran (42) and Krunal Pandya (43*) made useful contributions. Kagiso Rabada took two wickets while Sam Curran finished with figures of 3/28 in his four overs. Earlier LSG skipper Pooran won the toss and decided to bat first.
KL Rahul will be playing as an impact substitute as he is carrying an injury and therefore he is not captaining and Pooran has been given the responsibility. Mayank Yadav has debuted for LSG and Manimaran Siddharth is also playing. Naveen-Ul-Haq might come in as an impact substitute for Rahul, who has started in the playing 11 as LSG are batting first. There have been no changes in the Punjab playing 11 from their last match.
LSG will look to start their home campaign with a win. The Lucknow wicket is expected to be true to the batters unlike the previous year when the pitch's dual behaviour was tough for scoring runs.
