Indian skipper Rohit Sharma became the first player in history to score five centuries in T20 internationals. He smashed an unbeaten 121 against Afghanistan in the third and final match of the three-match series at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Wednesday, January 17.
With this century, he overtook compatriot Suryakumar Yadav and Australia’s Glenn Maxwell in the race of most centuries in T20is. Both Surya and Maxwell have hit four centuries each in the shortest format of the game.
Riding on his century, India managed to get over the whirlwind start where they had lost four quick wickets for just 22 runs and posted a mammoth 212-4 at the end of the innings.
Rohit, who was coming on the back of two consecutive ducks in the previous two innings, reached his fifty in 41 balls, looking to build a partnership after the loss of the first four wickets. However, once he got past that milestone, it was difficult to stop the flow of runs from his bat. He reached his hundred in the next 22 balls only.
