Cricket World Cup 2023 | India vs South Africa LIVE: Rahul Dravid's special message to Birthday boy

Ahead of India's upcoming match against South Africa in the 37th match of the ODI World Cup 2023 at the Eden Gardens, which will be played on Virat Kohli's birthday on Sunday, India head coach Rahul Dravid heaped praise on the ace Indian cricketer and said that he is a legend of the game, especially in the 50-over format.

 

Speaking to ICC, Dravid said that the way Kohli finishes games is applaudable. The former player and current head coach said that he has probably set a benchmark for his generation of cricketers.

 

"Virat's a legend of the game, especially this format of the game. I think all formats of the game, but particularly this one, I think his performance and the way he finishes games. The standard of his performance over the year has probably set a benchmark for his generation of cricketers," Dravid said.

Cricket World Cup 2023 | India vs South Africa Playing 11 LIVE: A special birthday wish for birthday boy

Renowned sand artist Sudarsan Pattnaik has created a sand sculpture on the occasion of Indian cricketer Virat Kohli's birthday at Puri Beach in Odisha on Saturday.

 

On Sunday, Virat Kohli turned 35. Sudarsan created a 7-foot-high sand sculpture of the former India skipper inside the replica of Eden Garden. He has also created 35 sand bats and installed some balls in his art. Pattnaik used about 5 tonnes of sand in it. Students of his sand art institute also joined hands with him to complete this sculpture.

 

Speaking to ANI, the renowned sand artist wished the ace cricketer on his 35th birthday. He also wished good luck to the 'Men in Blue' for the World Cup.

 

"I wish Virat Kohli on his birthday through my sculpture and best of luck to the entire cricket team for the World Cup," Sudarsan said.

Kohli at 35: Journey to top started at Garden of Eden 14 summers ago

The entire Mohun Bagan cricket team was on celebratory mode having just won the P. Sen Trophy at the Eden Gardens back in 2009, barring one individual.
 

From a distance, the architect of that crown was quietly sitting on a famous white coloured cane-chair, forever planted outside the Eden dressing room. He looked at the celebrations with utmost nonchalance.
 

Virat Kohli was all of 20, already an U-19 World Cup captain, touted as the next big thing in Indian cricket but a solitary half-century in five ODIs wasn't a reflection of what one was going to witness over the next decade.

As Kohli steps onto field on his 35th birthday, against South Africa in-front of of a packed crowd on the same hallowed turf, there would be an over-riding feeling among the handful who had watched the genius in the making 14 summers ago.
