Madhya Pradesh Assembly election 2023: Bihar’s ruling Janata Dal (United) or JD(U), a key constituent of the Opposition Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA), has released the first list of five candidates for the November 17 Madhya Pradesh polls after its talks for an alliance with the Congress failed. JD(U) is the third non-Congress party of the INDIA bloc after the Samajwadi Party (SP) and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) to announce candidates for the polls.

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Tuesday hit back at Congress leader Digvijaya Singh for terming him a "dramatist" after he performed the 'kanya pujan' ritual as part of Navratri festival. Chouhan's criticism drew a stinging reaction from state Congress president Kamal Nath who accused the CM of playing vote politics even on "sacred spiritual work like Kanya Puja".

Three Congress leaders, including two women leaders, have joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ahead of the Madhya Pradesh assembly polls scheduled to be held next month.

The Congress leaders Asha Dohare and Anita Jain from Ashoknagar district and Rakesh Jain from Shivpuri district took membership of the BJP in the presence of Union Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia in Gwalior on Tuesday.

'Will contest polls': Madhya Pradesh bureaucrat who quit after leave denied

A former Deputy Collector Nisha Bangre, whose resignation was accepted recently, has said that she will definitely contest the forthcoming state assembly elections.
 
The state government accepted the resignation of Ms Bangre, who was posted as Dy Collector in Chhatarpur district, on Monday (October 23). 
 
She resigned from her post on June 22 this year citing that she did not get permission to attend the inauguration of her newly constructed house from the state government.

Madhya Pradesh minister Govind Singh Rajput faces FIR over 'poll-code violation'

Madhya Pradesh minister Govind Singh Rajput has been booked for “violation of Mode Code of Conduct” in force in the state for the Assembly elections next month. This came after Congress alleged that he “openly and blatantly offered to pay Rs 25 lakh” to the booth where most votes are cast in favour of the ruling party in the state.
 
The FIR stated that the action was taken following a report of the Returning Officer of the Surkhi assembly constituency. Rajput is contesting elections from Sagar’s Surkhi seat.

'Will form government in all 5 states': Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge

Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge on Wednesday said that his party will form the government in all the five states, going to polls next month and that there is anti-incumbency in the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-ruled Madhya Pradesh.

"Congress' preparations for the elections in five states are going well. We are confident that we will win in all the states. There has been an anti-incumbency for the BJP owing to mainly inflation, and unemployment," Kharge told ANI.
 
The Assembly elections are scheduled to be held in single or two phases in all five states-- Telangana, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Mizoram-- in November.

Jyotiraditya Scindia takes a dig at Digvijaya's 'ran away' jibe

Union minister Jyotiraditya Scindia on Tuesday dismissed Congress veteran Digvijaya Singh's jibe that he "ran away" from Assembly elections in Madhya Pradesh.
 
"Do you take Digvijaya Singh seriously?" asked the BJP leader who quit the Congress three years ago.
 
He was asked by reporters in Gwalior about Digvijaya Singh's remark that the Congress gave ticket to KP Singh from Shivpuri even though it had promised ticket from the constituency to former BJP MLA Virendra Raghuvanshi, because it was expected that Jyotiraditya Scindia would be contesting from Shivpuri as the BJP candidate.
 
But Jyotiraditya Scindia, in the end, "ran away due to fear," Digvijaya Singh alleged on Monday.

Nitish Kumar's JD(U) names candidates for Madhya Pradesh polls

Bihar’s ruling Janata Dal (United) or JD(U), a key constituent of the Opposition INDIA bloc, has released the first list of five candidates for the upcoming Madhya Pradesh polls after its talks for an alliance with the Congress failed.
 
JD(U) general secretary Afaque Ahmed Khan, who released the party’s first list on Tuesday, said they failed to reach a deal.

“The JD(U) would contest around 10-12 seats. The second list would be released soon," he said.
