The historic victory in Uttar Pradesh, wherein the BJP won more than 320 assembly seats, has inspired political leaders and entrepreneurs pan-India who wish to take up the mantle and learn from the heroes of this win. India's E-commerce giant Flipkart's executive chairman Sachin Bansal too sees a lesson for entrepreneurs in BJP's performance in the recent assembly elections. Crediting PM Narendra Modi for the party's strong performance in the elections, Bansal tweeted, "Election results show how deeply Prime Minister Narendra Modi understands India. Lesson for entrepreneurs: be fanatic about understanding your audiences".
Prime Minister Narendra Modi responded to the tweet saying, "More than my understanding, it is the people who have trusted the BJP & we will never betray this faith."
Indeed, BJP's outstanding performance in Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand proves that Modi was right, as there seems to be no stalling the Modi wave that saw the BJP winning over 70 seats in the 2014 General elections.
Despite all odds, Amit Shah’s strategy and Modi government’s pro-government policies seem to have overpowered Akhilesh’s development model and Mayawati’s caste politics.
Uttar Pradesh election results shown that Modi’s grand image of a leader capable of taking strong decisions is still intact.
It is not just Sachin Bansal, but several other leaders too, who have been greatly inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi's win.
1. Powerful leadership can humble opposition
On BJP's landslide victory in UP and Uttarakhand, former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said that Modi's victory had shattered the opposition hopes of unseating him soon.
He tweeted that with the political balance tilting in favour of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the opposition should forget the Lok Sabha election of 2019 and aim at the 2024 general election to take power in New Delhi.
Former finance minister and senior Congress leader P Chidambaram said the Assembly elections results had shown that Prime Minister Narendra Modi was now the 'most dominant political figure'. 'He has a pan-India appeal'.
"What happened in UP was that one leader seemed to have complete sway over the electorate and seemingly swept away all the divisions", Chidambaram added.
2. Reaffirms faith of allies
Powerful leadership and credible performance can re-instill faith in those who have supported the party in the past. It tends to strengthen the bond.
Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti too felicitated the BJP for its victory by saying it was an endorsement of Prime Minister Modi’s agenda of development and progress.
She also added, "The people’s endorsement of Modi’s developmental agenda had proved right the decision of her father, the late Mufti Muhammad Sayeed, to ally with an ideologically divergent party like the BJP."
3. Entrepreneurs see hope
Harsh Goenka, chairman of RPG Enterprises said, "Decisive mandate for BJP will embolden Modi govt to shift agenda from political to growth. The stock market will rock and Rupee strengthen".
Prominent India Inc names like Harsh Goenka, Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw, Sachin Bansal, Sajjan Jindal, and Anand Mahindra hailed BJP's victory in Uttar Pradesh and the party's performance across other states saying that economic reforms would get a big boost as a result.
Mahindra & Mahindra group Chairman Anand Mahindra said that investors value predictability and stability. "BJP's resounding victory in UP points to long-term leadership. Markets may well applaud next week," added Mahindra.
4. Indian entrepreneurs in other countries get a boost
"Prime Minister Modi is not a typical politician as he does what he promised, I hope this change helps create more entrepreneurs and business development and economic development in Uttarakhand region," said Naveen Bisht, a Silicon Valley serial entrepreneur originally from Uttarakhand and former board member of TiE, a network of entrepreneurs.
Khanderao Kand, a director of Foundation for India and Indian Diaspora Studies (FIIDS) and founder president of GITPRO, a global Indian technology professionals association, said, "These elections will unblock a progress of India with a much needed positive change in the near future in the numbers in Rajya Sabha (which is) important for the passage of development related legislative changes."
5. Juggernaut leaders can defeat all odds
Demonetisation was seen as a big hurdle in the way of Modi as it was said that many farmers and small traders would punish him for the hardship they faced post November 8. Surprisingly, as voting day approached, the BJP pulled the dissenting farmers towards itself promising loan waivers for them and several schemes in the union budget.
