The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which is banking on Narendra Modi’s star power to sweep the eight assembly seats in Varanasi district is making it a issue of prestige as it is home to the prime minister’s parliamentary constituency. The Samajwadi Party-Congress alliance, however, believes that failed promises will lead to its downfall. Alliance is a video named as dard-e banaras to target the lack of development in this high profile constituency.  

Students from the BHU and IIT have who are witness to the lack of development in the PM’s constituency have come together to highlight dard-e-banaras. It is a testimonials of locals in Varanasi on their plight and issues, of neglect by the PM.

These videos are played across the campaign raths or video vans plying around Kashi. Alliance of Samajwadi (SP) and Congress are using it for their own campaigning. Video is also used heavily on social media across geographically targeted in facebook and whatsapp groups in Varanasi and surrounding areas. Until now the reach of these 2 minute videos have been for about 2,00,000 on Facebook and Whatsapp users in and around Varanasi.

BJP is banking heavily on Narendra Modi’s star power to sweep the eight assembly seats in Varanasi district. Voting will take place in the area on March 8 in the final phase of polling, with counting set for March 11.
