Political pundits are scratching their heads as the UP elections are getting closer to the last couple of phases. The alliance partners -- Congress and Samajwadi Party (SP) -- have stepped up their efforts to woo voters.
From launching new social media campaigns to distributing T-shirts dotted with the gathbandhan's catchy poll taglines, the two parties are not missing any opportunity to garner votes from every section. Interestingly, Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Varanasi constituency is also going for polls on March 8.
Here are the various strategies used by the Congress-SP campaigners:
1) Chalo Kashi
The Congress-SP launched a Chalo Kashi campaign online, where interns interested to work in Varanasi, signed up to work voluntarily for the two parties for one week. After the volunteers fill a form, including name, number, they are assigned campaign duties - such as nukkad plays, street theatre, Varanasi door to door etc.
Most of the volunteers are students from universities and colleges. The is the alliance's strategy to get young voters campaign for them. As of now 5000 volunteers from across the country are helping digitally and on-ground with the campaign, party sources said.
2) Banaras ke chaiwale
Volunteers from the BHU-IIT are reaching out to the tea vendors and others, mobilising their support for the gathbandhan. They are distributing T-shirts with Phirse Akhilesh and UP ko ye saath pasand hain written on them. Also, short 30-second videos saying, ‘Mein Banaras ka chai wala hun - aur mera saath Akhilesh-Rahul ke gathbandhan ko hai’ are recorded and shared heavily on digital platforms and for on-ground campaign activation.
3) Phir se Akhilesh door to door
The volunteers are also knocking every door in the constituencies that will go to poll next. They are highlighting their poll promises.
