Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Sunday underlined a zero tolerance policy towards law and order issues, even as he sought to assuage the concerns among a section of minorities over his perceptible Hindu hardline image.
Interacting with the media in Lucknow after holding an introductory Cabinet meeting at ‘Lok Bhawan’ state secretariat precincts, Yogi Adityanath noted that law and order in UP had deteriorated over the last 15 years and that people had been the primary sufferers of the scourge.
“The priority of my government is to jumpstart towards providing succour to people without any prejudices or favour,” he said adding the state government and administration wings would be made accountable for their acts.
Underlining the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) catchphrase of ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas’, the new chief minister maintained that he was aware of the challenges facing his government on the fronts of law and order, jobs, health, housing, public transport, food, sanitation, drinking water, women safety, agriculture, backwardness etc.
He asserted the regime would work for the betterment of all communities, poor, dalits, backwards, farmers, farm labour, women etc.
Yogi further broached upon youth related issues, such as skills development, job opportunities, government jobs etc, so as to arrest the migration of educated youth to other states in search of employment.
He reassured the BJP government would transform the party poll manifesto into reality and that the positive outcomes would soon be visible to all.
Meanwhile, he retorted his government would strive towards making UP as primarily an agro based economy, so that farm income could be doubled and sustainable job opportunities could be created.
Earlier in the day, Yogi took oath of office as the 21st chief minister of UP in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP president Amit Shah, former deputy chief minister Lal Krishna Advani, outgoing chief minister and Samajwadi Party (SP) president Akhilesh Yadav, Mulayam Singh Yadav etc. The chief ministers of several states were also present along with union ministers.
Along with Yogi, two deputy CMs viz. Keshav Prasad Maurya and Dinesh Sharma were also administered oath of office. Besides, 46 cabinet ministers and ministers of state took oath at an impressive ceremony held at the Kanshi Ram Smriti Upvan on the outskirts of city.
Several of the ministers taking oath comprised turncoats from other parties as well, including Rita Bahuguna Joshi (Congress), Brijesh Pathak (BSP), Nand Gopal Nandi (Congress) and Swami Prasad Maurya (BSP).
Meanwhile, the major pre-poll promise of the party the farm loan waiver is currently estimated at almost Rs 50,000 crore.
However, the state government is authorised to waive loans by state cooperative banks, whose total outstanding is roughly 20 per cent of total farm loan advances, which pegs it at about Rs 10,000 crore.
The outstanding extended by commercial banks falls outside the purview of a state government, unless the concerned state makes additional allocation in subsequent budgets to underwrite these advances or to take over such loans on its books.
Meanwhile, Yogi has appointed two newly inducted UP ministers who are also currently serving the BJP national media panels -- Siddharth Nath Singh and Srikant Sharma -- to brief media on regular basis.
