After taking oath as the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Yogi Adityanath on Sunday said he would work for the people of the northern state without any discrimination.

"We'll work for the people of UP without any discrimination," Adityanath said in his first press conference as the UP chief minister in Lucknow.

Emphasising on agriculture and job growth, Adityanath said he would take Uttar Pradesh on the "path to growth".

"Agriculture will be our prime focus... We will make government employment procedure free of corruption and work to improve the job crisis," he added.

The BJP leader also slammed previous governments for not developing UP. "In the past 15 years, UP has lagged in the development race. The past governments have upset UP's growth. I'll take UP on the path of growth," Adityanath said.

"We will work to improve law and order. We will fulfil all the promises we have made to the people of the state."

Earlier in the day, Yogi Adityanath had been sworn in as the 21st chief minister of Uttar Pradesh. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP National president Amit Shah and chief ministers of states ruled by the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance had also attended the swearing-in ceremony.

Dressed in his characteristic saffron robes, after taking the oath of office and secrecy, Adityanath walked across the dais to seek the blessings of BJP veterans L K  Advani and Murli Manohar Joshi, as well as Home Minister Rajnath Singh.
