Prime Minister Narendra Modi will undertake a tour of four states viz. Chhattisgarh, UP, Telangana and Rajasthan on July 7-8, ANI quoted Government of India sources.
 
PM Modi will participate in around a dozen programmes across five cities - Raipur, Gorakhpur, Varanasi, Warangal and Bikaner. He will inaugurate, dedicate and lay the foundation stone of about 50 projects worth around Rs 50,000 crores during the tour, ANI quoted officials as saying.

SC to hear petition seeking early assembly polls in J-K on Thursday: NPP leader

The Supreme Court will hear on Thursday a writ petition seeking early assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir, National Panthers Party (NPP) leader Harsh Dev Singh said here. Singh, a former minister and an advocate by profession, had moved the apex court for its indulgence in restoration of democratic process in the Union territory. The writ petition pertaining to the conduct of early assembly elections in J&K has been listed for hearing by the Supreme Court on July 6 (Thursday), Singh said in a statement here.

SC notice to Centre on plea seeking directions to fill vacant posts in NHRC

The Supreme Court on Tuesday sought the Centre's response on a plea seeking directions to fill three vacancies at the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC). A bench comprising Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud and Justice P S Narasimha issued notice to the government returnable within three weeks. The top court noted the existing seats fell vacant on September 11, 2021, January 4, 2023 and April 4, 2022.

Jharkhand HC exempts Rahul Gandhi from personal appearance in Modi surname case

The High Court of Jharkhand on Tuesday exempted Congress leader Rahul Gandhi from personal appearance in a Ranchi court in the Modi surname case. Justice SK Dwivedi also ordered that no coercive steps be taken against Gandhi. The senior Congress leader had moved the high court challenging the Ranchi MP-MLA court order that had directed him to appear in person in a defamation case.

Supreme Court on July 5 will hear an appeal of activist Teesta Setalvad against the Gujarat High Court order rejecting her regular bail and directing her to surrender immediately in a case of alleged fabrication of evidence in relation to the 2002 Gujarat riots. On Saturday, Supreme Court stayed the Gujarat High Court order for a week and granted protection from arrest to Setalvad.
