House collapses in Uttar Pradesh's Meerut, over 6 people feared trapped

Over six people are feared trapped under the rubble of a three-storey house that collapsed here on Saturday evening, officials said.

The incident occurred around 5:15 PM, and emergency services were immediately alerted, they said.

District Magistrate Deepak Meena confirmed that the collapse occurred in a three-storey house in Zakir Colony.

He said six to seven people are believed to be trapped under the debris. Rescue operations are underway.

There are no immediate reports of fatalities yet, Meena said.

Senior officials, including ADG DK Thakur, Commissioner Selva Kumari J., IG Nachiketa Jha, and SSP Dr. Vipin Tada, rushed to the scene to oversee rescue operations.

Teams from the NDRF, fire brigade, and police are working to rescue the victims from the debris. While some people have been rescued safely, the exact number of casualties remains unclear.

The exact cause of the collapse is yet to be ascertained and authorities are investigating the matter.

Maximum temperature settles six notches below normal in Delhi

Delhi's maximum temperature was recorded six notches below normal at 27.6 degrees Celsius, the India Meteorological Department said on Saturday.
 
The minimum temperature had settled at 21.2 degrees Celsius, 3.9 notches below the average, the Met office said.
 
In the 24 hours ended at 8:30 am, Delhi recorded 57 mm rainfall. Humidity was recorded at 100 per cent during the day.
 
For Sunday, the weather office has predicted generally cloudy skies with light rain. The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to settle around 33 and 23 degrees Celsius, respectively.
 
The 24-hour Air Quality Index (AQI) of the national capital was recorded in the 'satisfactory' category with a reading of 62 at 4 pm, according to the Central Pollution Control Board.
 
An AQI between zero and 50 is considered 'good', 51 and 100 'satisfactory', 101 and 200 'moderate', 201 and 300 'poor', 301 and 400 'very poor', and 401 and 500 'severe'.

Blast injures rag picker in Kolkata; bomb squad clears scene

A blast occurred around 13:45 hrs at the intersection of Blochmann Street and S N Banerjee Road in Kolkata, injuring a rag picker. The injured individual, suffering from a wrist injury, was taken to NRS Hospital. The area was secured, and the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) conducted a thorough search before traffic was resumed.

CM Mamata Banerjee to hold meeting with junior doctors at 6 pm today at her residence

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee will hold a meeting with a delegation of 15 junior doctors at her residence today.
 
The meeting is scheduled for 6 pm today, Saturday.
 
This comes after Mamata Banerjee visited the junior doctors' protest site in front of Swasthya Bhaban, where she assured the doctors that she would address their demands and make efforts to fulfil them.
 
Addressing the protesting doctors, the West Bengal Chief Minister said that she was spending sleepless nights as the doctors were agitating on the road amid rains.
 
She further urged the protesting doctors to return to work and said, "I request you to return to work. All the work related to the development, infrastructure, and security of the hospital has been started and will be done further."
 
Meanwhile, in an effort to monitor the situation and ensure security, the Kolkata Police have installed CCTV cameras at the protest site and surrounding areas.
