Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman had a telephone call with US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen today. The two leaders held cordial discussions on international taxation, Ministry of Finance said in a statement.

RBI has revised its decision to impose restriction on BOB World, allowing it to onboard customers through the app, Bank of Baroda informed stock exchanges on May 8. The lifting of restriction applies to PSU lender with immediate effect, the bank said. Back in October 2023, the banking regulator had directed our BoB to suspend further onboarding of customers onto 'Bob World' mobile application, citing 'certain material supervisory concerns' observed in the processes.

TVS Motor Company saw its fourth-quarter net profit rise 18 per cent to Rs 485 crore in the March quarter, aided by robust volumes, healthy product mix, better pricing and benign commodity costs. The Chennai-based two-wheeler manufacturer’s revenue from operations jumped by 24 per cent to Rs 8,169 crore in Q4FY24.

Tata Power on Wednesday reported a 15 per cent year-on-year (Y-o-Y) growth in its consolidated net profit at Rs 895 crore for the fourth quarter, compared with Rs 778 crore in the last year quarter. Revenue from operations in the reporting period rose 27 per cent Y-o-Y to Rs 15,846 crore.

After multiple flight delays and cancellations, Air India Express said that it will provide full refund and rescheduling to passengers. Since Tuesday, Air India Express has canceled some 26 flights and delayed 81 because of sick calls by some cabin crew members who have expressed discontent against perceived “inequality” in their treatment compared to counterparts at AIX Connect.

After three Independent legislators withdrew support to the BJP government in Haryana, JJP leader Digvijay Singh Chautala Tuesday asserted that former Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda should initiate the process to "bring down the government which has lost trust of people". Reducing the government to a minority in the state assembly, three Independent MLAs withdrew support to the Nayab Singh Saini government and announced they would back the Congress. The government which has the support of two other Independents is now two short of the majority mark in the 90-member House which has a current strength of 88.

After reports of pro-Khalistan imagery at a Nagar Kirtan parade at Malton in Toronto emerged, India criticised Canada for giving space to  separatist elements. Ministry of External Affairs Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said, "As you are aware, we have repeatedly raised our strong concerns regarding the violent imagery being used by extremist elements in Canada against our political leadership. Last year, a float depicting the assassination of our former Prime Minister was used in a procession. Display of posters of Indian diplomats have also been put out across Canada threatening violence against them."

The Maldives government led by President Mohamed Muizzu is sending its Foreign Minister Moosa Zameer  for the first high-level ministerial visit on May 9. This development comes as the deadline for the withdrawal of Indian military personnel from Maldives ends on May 10. Zameer will be in India on an official visit on Thursday, the Ministry of External Affairs announced on Tuesday. Soon after winning the elections in November 2023, Muizzu, who is perceived as pro-China, had told India to withdraw its military personnel from the island country.

0.1% wildlife cover was on fire, Uttarakhand government tells Supreme Court

Kerala journalist covering man-animal conflict crushed to death by elephant

AV Mukesh,  a cameraman and columnist with a Malayalam TV channel Mathrubhumi News who was part of a news team covering wild elephant menace in Kerala’s Palakkad district was crushed to death by an elephant on Wednesday, the police said.
