B'desh President meets key coordinators of students' movement; discusses current situation

Bangladesh President Mohammed Shahabuddin on Tuesday met with the key coordinators of the anti-discrimination student movement at the Bangabhaban to discuss the current situation and the shape of the interim government, media reports said.
 
Citing one of the coordinators, Bengali language daily Prothom Alo reported that the meeting started on Tuesday evening.
 
"A group of 13 members of the anti-discrimination student movement is holding a meeting with the President and the three armed forces chiefs at Bangabhaban regarding the current situation and the shape of the interim government," the paper said.
 
President Shahabuddin earlier in the day dissolved the parliament to make way for the formation of an interim administration.

India to become developed nation by 2047, says Basavaraj Bommai in LS

BJP leader Basavaraj Bommai on Tuesday said India is marching ahead under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership and will become a developed nation by 2047.
 
Participating in the discussion on the Finance Bill, 2024, in the Lok Sabha, Bommai also said that PM Modi commands credibility like former prime minister Lal Bahadur Shastri in terms of morality, leadership quality and enjoys people's confidence.
 
He further said that like 'Neelkanth' (another name of Lord Shiva), he braves all insults, but does only good for people.
 
Bommai said that but for Prime Minister Modi, the country would have been in a chaotic state economically, socially and politically.
 
"We are moving ahead in Amrit Kaal under the Modi government and our children will get to see a developed India by 2047," he said.

Uptick in rural demand to propel two-wheeler industry: TVS Motor chief

 The domestic two-wheeler segment will continue on growth path in the current fiscal on the back of factors like normal rainfall and uptick in rural demand, according to TVS Motor Chairman Ralf Speth.
 
Speaking at the company's annual general meeting (AGM), he noted that in partnership with BMW Motorrad, TVS will be working on design and development of additional new vehicles for the global markets.
 
"With a young, intelligent, thriving workforce the nation is well-positioned to leverage its advantages. I am also convinced that India can benefit from major shifts in the geo-political, geo-economic, environmental and social landscape. India can go its own way. India can overtake," Speth stated.
 
He noted that the company expects the domestic two-wheeler industry to continue to grow in FY25 on the back of strong economic indicators, including normal rainfall and uptick in rural demand.

FM Sitharaman made mockery of people of India in budget by doing absolutely nothing: Moitra

Lok Sabha member Mahua Moitra on Tuesday hit out at Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, saying she has made a mockery of people of India in the budget by doing absolutely nothing and whatever little changes are there are regressive and ill thought of.
 
Speaking in the Lok Sabha, Moitra criticized the budget for failing to address the needs of the common people.
 
"People wanted a course correction, but you have done the exact opposite. You have kept the same Cabinet, the same Finance Minister, who has given the same shoddy budget," Moitra said.
 
"The Finance Minister has made mockery of people of India in the budget by doing absolutely nothing, whatever little changes are there are regressive and ill thought of," she added.
 
The TMC MP questioned the purpose of the budget, highlighting its adverse impact on the middle class and the poor.
 
“Who is this budget for? The middle class makes up 31 per cent of India and the poor account for 60-65 per cent. This budget systematically strangles both groups. It is a ‘save the chair' budget for this government and even that it doesn't do very well,” she asserted.

Rahul Gandhi hermit, does not have caste: BJP's Nishikant Dubey

BJP MP Nishikant Dubey on Tuesday raked up the caste remarks made by former Union minister Anurag Thakur in the Lok Sabha against Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi and said the Congress leader does not have a caste.
 
Participating in a debate on the Finance Bill, Dubey referred to Thakur's remarks, in which he had questioned the leader of opposition about his caste.
"I do not completely agree with what Anurag Thakur said the other day. I would like to apologise on his behalf in this House," the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP said.
 
"The allegation he made about caste is wrong.... There is no caste. He (Gandhi) says, I am not what I appear.... So he is a hermit," the member of Parliament from Godda in Jharkhand said.
 
"It is said that you should not ask about the caste of a hermit," he added.
 
Dubey further attacked the Congress over its demand for a nationwide caste census.
 
"Anurag Singh Thakurji made a mistake.... But I want to ask the Congress, many people in this country do not believe in religion, caste.... How will they participate in a caste-based census?" he asked.

Bangladesh's President Mohammed Shahabuddin has dissolved the country's parliament formed through the January 7 national election.

The Anti-Discrimination Student Movement's coordinators declared on Tuesday that Nobel Prize recipient Dr. Muhammad Yunus will serve as the chief advisor to Bangladesh's interim government. Nahid Islam, a key coordinator of the movement, released a video on social media early Tuesday stating that Professor Yunus has accepted this vital role in response to students' appeal to rescue the nation, as reported by the Daily Star newspaper. "We took 24 hours to announce a framework for the interim government. However, considering the emergency situation, we are announcing it now," Nahid said.
 
"We have decided that the interim government would be formed in which internationally renowned Nobel Laureate Dr Mohammad Yunus, who has wide acceptability, would be the chief adviser," said Nahid. This declaration follows President Mohammed Shahabuddin's televised address to the nation late Monday night, in which he announced plans to form an interim government after dissolving parliament as soon as possible. The president also commanded the release of former prime minister Khaleda Zia, who is under house arrest following convictions in multiple cases.
