Petrol, diesel prices to rise in Karnataka as government increases sales tax on fuel

The Karnataka government increased the sales tax on fuel on Saturday, raising the prices of petrol and diesel. Official sources indicate that petrol will rise by Rs 3 per litre and diesel by Rs 3.5 per litre. A notification from the Finance Department states that the sales tax on petrol has been increased by 3.92 percentage points, from 25.92% to 29.84%, and on diesel by 4.1 percentage points, from 14.34% to 18.44%.

Metro Timings of last, first Yellow Line trains on Sunday, Monday to change: DMRC

Officials announced on Saturday that the first and last train timings on Sunday and Monday will be adjusted due to ongoing work on a 490-meter section of the Janakpuri West to R K Ashram corridor on Delhi Metro's Yellow Line. Last train will leave Samaypur Badli for Millennium City Centre Gurugram at 10:45 pm instead of 11 pm, and from Millennium City Centre Gurugram to Samaypur Badli at 9:30 pm instead of 11 pm. On Monday, the first train from Samaypur Badli to Millennium City Centre Gurugram will start at 7 am instead of 6 am. There will be no train service between Samaypur Badli and Jahangirpuri after 11 pm on Sunday and before 7 am on Monday.

Reasi bus terror attack: 10 critically injured discharged, 5 stable in J-K hospital

Doctors reported that six life-saving surgeries were conducted on the most critically injured victims of the terror attack on a bus carrying pilgrims in Jammu and Kashmir's Reasi district. The director of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi (SMVD) Narayana Superspeciality Hospital stated, "Our priority was stabilizing patients and saving lives." Fifteen critically injured patients were admitted to SMVD Narayana Hospital in Katra. Ten have already been discharged, while five remain under observation and are responding well to treatment, according to the hospital.

14 people killed, 12 injured as tempo skids off road, falls into Alaknanda river in Uttarakhand

14 people died and 12 were injured after a tempo traveller veered off the road and plunged into the Alaknanda river on the Badrinath national highway in Uttarakhand on Saturday, officials reported. Garhwal Inspector General of Police KS Nagnyal stated that the victims were tourists heading to Chopta. He mentioned that the vehicle carried 26 people, mostly from Delhi, with ten fatalities resulting from the accident.

Unauthorised structures at Ex-CM Jagan's residence in Hyderabad demolished

On Saturday, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) demolished some buildings near the Lotus Pond residence of former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy. Veteran sports journalist Harpal Singh Bedi passes away at age of 72

Veteran sports journalist Harpal Singh Bedi, known for his extensive coverage of Indian sports over four decades, passed away after a long illness on Saturday. He was 72 years old and is survived by his wife Revathi and daughter Pallavi. A Delhi court on Saturday extended the judicial custody of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's aide Bibhav Kumar  till June 22. Kumar is accused of assaulting AAP Rajya Sabha MP Swati Maliwal on May 13 at the chief minister's official residence. Bibhav Kumar was produced through video conferencing before the duty metropolitan magistrate, who extended the custody and directed the Delhi Police to produce him on June 22.

Delhi Congress workers organised a 'Matka phod' protest in Krishna Nagar against water crisis in the national capital. Congress workers alleged that Delhites are being cheated as the BJP and AAP government play the blame game.

PM Modi on Friday, June 14, left for home after concluding his day-long visit to Italy during which the prime minister attended the G7 summit and held bilaterals with several world leaders including British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, French President Emmanuel Macron and Pope Francis, PTI reported. Addressing a session of the G7 summit in Italy's Apulia region, PM Modi called for democratisation in technology and said it must be made creative to lay the foundation of an inclusive society. He spoke at lengths on the importance of ending the monopoly in technology with a particular emphasis on the technology around artificial intelligence.

The Group of Seven (G7) countries expressed their determinations to tackle what they called "unfair business practices" by China that were undermining their workers and industries, according to a draft statement on the final day of their annual summit. The G7 statement also warned of action against Chinese financial institutions that helped Russia obtain weaponry for its war against Ukraine. Notably, China is among the biggest buyers of Russian crude oil. Pope Francis also joined the leaders of Italy, the United States, Britain, Canada, France, Germany and Japan in southern Italy on Friday, in a historic appearance at a G7 Summit. He participated in the discussion regarding artificial intelligence.
