Hezbollah says fires drones and guided missiles at Israel

Lebanon's Iran-backed Hezbollah movement said on Saturday it had targeted northern Israel with drones and guided missiles after cross-border Israeli strikes killed three people, including two of its members. A Hezbollah statement said the group "launched a complex attack using explosive drones and guided missiles on the headquarters of the Al Manara military command and a gathering of forces from the 51st Battalion of the Golani Brigade".

60 roads blocked due to snowfall in Himachal Pradesh; IMD issues orange alert

As many as 60 roads and three national highways were blocked on Saturday in Himachal Pradesh following recent snowfall in the region, according to an official release. As per the data from the State Emergency Operation Centre, 60 roads are closed in Chamba, Kangra, Kullu and Lahaul Spiti. Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for several parts of Himachal Pradesh, warning of snowfall and rain.

UK officials decline to comment on reports that British troops may be asked with delivering Gaza aid

British troops may be tasked with delivering aid to Gaza from an offshore pier now under construction by the US military, the BBC reported Saturday. UK government officials declined to comment on the report. According to the BBC, the British government is considering deploying troops to drive the trucks that will carry aid from the pier along a floating causeway to the shore. No decision has been made and the proposal hasn't yet reached Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, the BBC reported, citing unidentified government sources.The report comes after a senior US military official said on Thursday that there would be no American "boots on the ground" and another nation would provide the personnel to drive the delivery trucks to the shore. The official, who spoke to reporters on condition of anonymity to discuss details not yet made public, declined to identify the third party.

Four injured in fire at Mumbai hospital; Situation under control

Four people sustained burn injuries after a fire broke out at a multi-storey hospital building in Mumbai's Kandivali West on Saturday afternoon, officials said. Those injured in the incident have been identified as Swadhin Mukhi (56), Rajdeo (35), Narendra Murya (45), and Sunil (35). All of them have been admitted, and their condition was said to be stable. According to Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) officials, the fire broke out at New Wins Hospital on New Link Road in Kandivali West at around 1:48 pm.

IDFC First Bank Q4 Results: Standalone PAT declines 10% to Rs 724 crore

IDFC First Bank today reported a net profit of Rs 724.35 crore for the quarter ended March 31 which was down from Rs 802.62 crore reported by the lender in the year ago period.
 
IDFC First Bank reported an interest income of Rs 8,219.21 crore in the January-March quarter which was higher from Rs 6,424.35 crore reported in the year ago period. It was up by 28 per cent on the year-on-year basis.

Earthquake of magnitude 6.5 jolts Japan's Bonin Islands, USGS says

An earthquake of magnitude 6.5 struck Japan's Bonin Islands, the United States Geological Survey (USGS) said on Saturday. The quake was at a depth of 503.2 km (312.7 miles), USGS said. The epicentre was located off the west coast of the islands, about 875 km south of Tokyo, at a latitude of 27.9 degrees north and a longitude of 140.0 degrees east, Xinhua news agency reported. Weak tremors were also felt in central Tokyo. No tsunami warnings have been issued.

YES Bank Q4 results: Net Profit up 123.2% at Rs 452 cr, NII at Rs 2,153 cr

Yes Bank reported a bigger-than-expected rise in net profit for the January-March quarter on Saturday, helped by a drop in loan-loss provisions and higher non-interest income.
The Mumbai-based private lender's standalone net profit more than doubled to Rs 452 crore for the financial fourth quarter from Rs 202 in the same period a year earlier.
The bank's other income, the fees earned from providing non-lending services to customers rose 56.2 per cent on year.
Net interest income, the difference between the interest earned on loans and paid to depositors, rose 2.3 per cent to Rs 2153 crore.
Net interest margin, a key profitability measure for banks, dropped to 2.4 per cent from 2.80  per cent a year earlier, and was flat on a quarterly basis.

Congress Chief Mallikarjun Kharge on Saturday said that the names of party candidates for prestigious Amethi and Rae Bareli seats in Uttar Pradesh will be announced in a "few days". The names of candidates for the two seats in Uttar Pradesh have not been declared so far by Congress.

Delhi CM and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) convenor Arvind Kejriwal's wife, Sunita Kejriwal, will lead the party's Lok Sabha electoral campaign in the national capital and other states. The party's campaign will be launched with her inaugural roadshow on Saturday, advocating for AAP's East Delhi candidate, Kuldeep Kumar.

Second phase of polling concluded for 88 seats across 13 states and Union Territories under the general elections 2024 on Friday, with Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's Wayanad Lok Sabha constituency in Kerala recording 72.70 per cent voter turnout. Kerala, where polling has been completed for all 20 Lok Sabha seats in the second phase of the general elections on Friday, recorded a voter turnout of 70.21 per cent till the last report, according to data shared by the Election Commission (EC).

Moving on to the West Asia, Hamas said that it’s considering the latest counterproposal by Israel on a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and the release of hostages, according to a Bloomberg that cited Agence France-Presse report. Despite more than six months of conflict with Israel in Gaza, negotiations have not resulted in peace, with Hamas maintaining that any agreement must bring an end to the hostilities by Israel.
